Important: Measles Alert

Following a recent outbreak of measles, we strongly advise all parents and carers to ensure that children are fully immunised with the MMR vaccine.

Measles is a highly infectious illness and can be serious, particularly for babies, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems. Complications can include ear infections, pneumonia, seizures and, in rare cases, brain inflammation (encephalitis).

Please check your child’s Red Book to confirm they have received both doses of the MMR vaccine. If you are unsure about your child’s vaccination status, please contact the practice and we will be happy to check your records.

If you believe you or your child may have symptoms of measles please do NOT attend the practice in person.
Instead, please telephone the surgery or submit an online consultation so we can advise you safely.

Keeping You Safe

Infection Prevention and Control

HCRG Care Group is committed to the prevention and control of infection and ensuring that service user safety is at the fore front of all our services.

We take infection control very seriously and we are committed to delivering the highest standards across all our sites to help prevent avoidable infections by ensuring a clean and safe environment.

Infections are caused by bacteria or viruses (bugs) that occur naturally all around us, in the air, on surfaces and all over our bodies. It is important to remember that most of them will not do us any harm.

We believe that the prevention and control of infection is seen as everyone’s responsibility and our Infection Prevention and Control lead nurses are available to offer expert advice and guidance to colleagues, the people who use our services and  visitors.

What we do

We regularly train and update all our colleagues on infection prevention and control issues.

The organisation is compliant with the Health and Social Care Act 2008: code of practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance and related guidance This outlines the requirements for providers to assess the risk of, prevent, detect and control the spread of infections, including those that are health care associated. Compliance against the code of practice is reviewed regularly through our Infection Prevention and Control Committee.

We promote handwashing and the use of alcohol hand gel as one of the most important ways of preventing the spread of infections.

We work with our cleaning colleagues to maintain high standards of cleanliness in our healthcare environments.

What can you do to help?

As a Visitor to our Healthcare Facilities

  • Please wash your hands or use the alcohol hand rub before entering or leave the healthcare facility
  • Please let staff know if the alcohol gel dispenser is empty.
  • When visiting our healthcare settings if you see any areas that have not been cleaned, please let one of our colleagues know.
  • Please do not visit or attend appointments if you have symptoms such as diarrhoea or vomiting (and for 48 hours after your last episode) or infections such as chickenpox.

Contacting the Infection Prevention and Control Leads

If you have any questions or concerns you would like to raise with the IPC Lead, please speak to one of our colleagues in the service or contact via email on Ask.quality@hcrgcaregroup.com and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

What visitors can do to help us fight infection

We know that hand washing/cleaning is the single most important measure we can all take to prevent the spread of infection in hospitals. Therefore, when you are visiting, please:

  • clean your hands when you enter the ward using the alcohol hand rub were provided
  • clean your hands when you leave using the alcohol hand rub provided
  • always wash your hands with soap, and dry thoroughly if you use a visitor’s toilet
  • Children under 12 are discouraged from visiting, unless you have permission from the ward manager
  • Visiting times will be displayed outside the ward and are at the discretion of the nurse in charge. Please respect the times in the day needed for patients to rest and to receive treatment

Please do not

  • Sit on or put your feet on hospital beds
  • Visit your relative or friend if you have a cold, diarrhoea or vomiting, or if you feel unwell yourself
  • Use the patients’ toilets while visiting. There are separate toilets for visitors
  • Please help keep our hospitals clean and tidy by disposing of waste (e.g. used tissues or sweet wrappers), in the waste bins provided
  • If you are taking your relative’s/friend’s washing home, please do so on a regular basis so there is no build up of used laundry in their locker
  • We do not support food being brought in from home, but recognise that this does happen, please speak to the ward team and follow their advise. Please note that we cannot reheat any foods not prepared on site
